Segment 1
The final T4G conference just occurred.
Mark Dever promised there would be crystal clarity regarding his position on CRT.
There was panel moderated by Mark Dever with Kevin DeYoung and Pastor Bobby Smith.
Do we disagree with anything from either of these men?
Let’s hear from Kevin DeYoung first.
“CRT has become a quick accusation to silence discussion”
“CRT is a thing. It’s not just a label.”
“The essence of CRT isn’t this. It has revisionist view of American history”
“There is a presumption in CRT that says disparities are caused by racism”
Segment 2
“CRT has often been a detour”
“We should be critical of critical race theory”
We were promised there would be great clarity from Mark Dever and Ligon Duncan on their CRT positions.
We are listening to their messages now, but from this panel, we have no more information.
Pastor Bobby Smith offers a different position. “I’m not Critical Race Theorist”
He isn’t a proponent of CRT, but he goes on to describe it as helpful.
Is there anything about CRT we can consider helpful?
Pastor Smith shares his father’s experience in the 1950s.
Do we have a single law on the books today that is systemically racist?
Segment 3
Jonathan Edwards is most known for his “Sinners in the hands of angry God” sermon; esteemed to be one of the most important sermons in American history.
Historical background on Jonathan Edwards. Entered Yale at the age of 12 and graduated in 4 years at the head of his class.
If you’re not teaching law and gospel or any hell fire preaching, you need to start.
Hell was a real place in Edwards mind, and therefore worthy of continual warnings.
Heaven and love were the two most used words in Edwards’ sermons.
Are we striking a balance?
From Jonathan Edwards Devotional. God’s gift of grace.
Segment 4
Jonathan Edwards had balance in his preaching.
If we don’t have balance, we will lose joy and our passion for God and people.
“The love of Christ is exceedingly sweet and satisfying” “There has never been a love like Christ has for believers.”
Has your diet been lacking the love of God?
More from the Jonathan Edwards devotional.
When you read or hear the word of God, reflect on yourself.
