-Episode 2618-
Segment 1 (00:21): Your emotions are theological. When we are caught up in anxiety and depression we are saying that we do not trust in God’s promises. We are not trusting God when we are caught in these moments. Todd talks about Edward Welch’s book about depression. There are occasions where there are internal health problems that can trigger your depression. If you are dealing with depression you should get it checked out medically. Past that, depression is still theological.
Segment 2 (08:27): We cannot blame depression on the brain. The people who cause you grief and hurt you will be judged and handled by God. He will not let evildoers get away with their deeds. Speak truth to yourself. Do not let lies and worries take you to a depressive state. Replace your thinking with God’s thinking. No the truth that God loves you. God is winning the entire battle, even if we lose little ones. If you serve others as Jesus did then you will be less likely to be depressed.
Segment 3 (18:06): When God gives us the reassuring truth but we still complain we are in a way acting like a toddler. If we trust God, then we will begin the process of having more peace.
Wretched Surprise! (25:39): One more point from Edward Welch’s book: depression can become work-righteousness.
