Wretched Radio | Air Date: September 05, 2022
Segment 1
Self-Harm can feel like a total mystery. The person committing self-harm knows cutting isn’t right.
Mark Shaw talks about self-injurious behavior.
The Bible speaks to this behavior starting with perfection.
When perfection is not attained, they fall short of the standard of themselves.
This is when a self-injurer will begin to behave lie a priest.
A cutter, will take a sharp instrument and use it to draw blood, like a priest offering a sacrifice.
Hebrews 10:4 tells us it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to forgive sins.
Segment 2
Do you know someone afflicted with self-injurious behavior?
Mark Shaw shows how the self-injurer is acting as a priest. But, Jesus did that for you.
Instead of letting the world define self-injury, we must let the Bible inform us.
The world makes these issues clinical. The Bible, however, defines issues differently.
The self-harmer is suffering from a worship disorder.
Our lives are a worship service.
When you’re tempted, will you worship self or are you going to worship the Lord?
Segment 3
Mark Shaw uses biblical language and gives clarity on an issue that causes much confusion.
1. Self-injurers are experiencing normal human emotions. It’s normal to lament.
2. Some self-injurers are true sufferers trying to find meaning.
3. Self-harm is a sin.
Segment 4
4. The self-injurer uses self-harm as a tool.
5. The self-injurer is crying out for attention.
6. The self-injurer believes their problems are external and the solutions are internal but the opposite is really true.
7. The self-injurer is self-loathing but with incorrect motivations.
