Are you really living? What does it mean to live, to have joy, to have perspective?
Wretched Radio | Air Date: July 04, 2022
Segment 1
How are you feeling Christian? Is your soul weary and troubled?
John 14:1, Jesus commands us to not let our hearts be troubled. But, His heart was troubled in John 12 and John 13.
So, there’s a difference in feeling heavy and sinful hopelessness.
In Gospel of Matthew, Jesus says “you of little faith” four times to speak of those not believing well.
In those lessons, we have the remedy of how we deal with a world that seems like it’s crumbling under us.
How should we live as these things are happening all around us?
Keep your eyes on Jesus.
Segment 2
Are you really living?
What does it mean to live, to have joy, to have perspective?
Is there anything in yourself that provides comfort, peace, joy?
If so, you’re not really living. You joy, peace, and comfort should come from Jesus.
2 Corinthians 11. Two groups of people infiltration the Church. Judaizers, and Gnostics.
Have you and I lost our simplicity in Christ? Has much of our preaching lost its simplicity?
Perhaps the source of your fears comes from forgetting the simplicity there is in Christ.
Maybe we’ve gotten so consumed with the politics, and so high with our theology that we’ve grown to depend on our government to keep everyone safe.
Segment 3
Have you lost the simplicity that’s in Christ?
So much is available today that takes us deeper and deeper and deeper into the Word, but we can run the risk of losing the simplicity in Christ.
Are we just loving Jesus? Have we turned our eyes from Him? Are we so attracted to deeper theology and big words that we forget the simplicity of Christ?
If Paul was here today, would he be terrified at what all is going on?
Paul didn’t just preach the gospel, he also worked in the marketplace to provide for himself. Just as he worked in the world, we too can work in the world.
We don’t abandon theology, but the simplicity that’s in Christ must stay in the foreground.
Segment 4
Storytime.
In ancient Israel, a man and woman was joined by a year long betrothal. But, the marriage wasn’t yet consummated until the groom returned. But, no one knew when the groom would return, except the father. The betrothal year was spent in much anticipation.
That’s the marriage paradigm. It resembles the reality of Jesus’ return.
Story 2
Matthew 25 – The 10 virgins.
Five of them waited in anticipation with their lamps lit. Five were lazy.
Today, we need to keep our lamps trimmed. How?
What are we living for? Are we too busy to live for Christ? Are we too concerned with politics? Are we concerned enough with living for Christ?
How have you been treating church lately?
