Having A Heart For A Bully | Wretched TV Episode 2883

It seems that everyone at one time or another has experienced a bully, and unfortunately our children may fall victim to that. In today’s episode, Todd explains how we shouldn’t just iron over the quick fixes to bullies in our children’s lives and to just slow our parenting roll. So we dig a little deeper into the matter to ask the question, “What do we really want from, and for our kids”?

Tim Keeter, at the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors Conference, explains that in order to reach our children’s hearts we must first understand the heart at its core. The heart is evil above all things, and in order to help guide your child, it will take time, patience, and wisdom in order to perform any kind of (figurative) heart surgery. Although there is only one problem. We can’t get into our child’s heart. But God can. When we present the Word to our children, it can radically change their view on things like their bully.

Open our children’s heart to the Bible

It can be quite easy to learn what a child is keeping in the treasure chest of their heart when they are the subject to another’s bullying. When God opens up our children’s heart to the bible, it becomes much easier to replace these sinful treasures of pride and contempt with Godly treasures of forgiveness and compassion. We need our children to learn that God will always be faithful in our darkest times, and that he will eventually deal with our bullies.

When our children dig deeper into scripture, and God reveals his truth to them, they will begin to understand the truth of the matter. God deals with bullies of all shapes and sizes. God is just, and those bullies who deny God will eventually stand before God on judgment day, and their sentence won’t be pretty. Once our children understand that, they realize how awful that will be for their bully, and will want to show the hope and love of Christ instead!
