Do Denominations Disprove God’s Existence | Episode 2903
Today’s Wretched Worldview hones in on the subject of denominations. Walk through pre-understandings. Then, explore explicit, and implicit bible verses with Todd and Dr. Owen Strachan as they relate to denominations. Do the vast “flavors” of protestantism Disprove God’s Existence?
Dr Strachan begins by looking at common pre-understandings surrounding denominations. He discusses several common assertions. Some of which are: “My denomination is the only good one.” “Denominations exist because Christians are mean to each other.” and “Denominations are all man made.”
Bible Verses on Denominationalism
Next, Dr. Owen Strachan makes note of the explicit and implicit Bible verses on the issue. For example, in Acts 6 there is an argument between Hellenists and Hebrews where spiritual one-ness is seen as prized. The conclusion offered is that denominations should not be something that are easily formed. It should be a last resort (like the Protestant reformation).
Your Denomination Affects Your Testimony
Next, Strachan considers how denominations affect one’s personal testimony. His challenge to you, the viewer, is to ask yourself if you are in a denomination that has lost its hold on the gospel and on sound biblical doctrine. You are called to be a member of a local assembly of believers. Still, wisdom requires us to be careful about the denomination and doctrines each Church has. Being a member of a local church is a mandate from God. Pick one that preaches the gospel.
Finally, this episode analyzes some verses from Hebrews. Here, we find we can encourage one another inside the local church. Not only this, the church should be the main place for encouragement.
We will continue preaching the gospel, equipping the saints to do likewise, and strengthening the local church! If you believe in what we do here and have the ability at this time to support this ministry – if you don’t, we still love you – please consider becoming a Gospel Partner.
